“Everyone was amazed by how quickly they could get a show up and running”

Slovenia’s national television channel, RTV Slovenia, has recently invested in a new dot2 XL-F and a dot2 Node4 (1K) for use in the smaller studios throughout its HQ in Ljubljana, as well as for OB projects and other ‘mobile’ applications. The console was specified by Bojan Repic, responsible for the purchase and maintenance of new equipment and technologies in the lighting department and head of lighting, Bojan Lenart.

Bojan Repic is also a moving light programmer and operator for many productions covering news, documentaries and information programmes as well as entertainment including dramas, films and music projects. RTV’s busy lighting department works across all of the four major studios in Ljubljana together with outside recordings and special events.

Bojan discussed purchasing the dot2 XL-F at length with MA Lighting’s Slovenian distributor MK Light Sound before taking the decision. They had been looking for a smaller console for some time, and once they heard that MA was releasing something new, exciting and smaller, waited until dot2 was launched.

Extremely pleased with the performance of the other three grandMA2 consoles throughout the organisation it made sense to keep with the same brand and its renowned stability and power. MK Light Sound also organised a special dot2 presentation for Bojan and his team, and shortly after this, the order was confirmed.

A typical show for which they use the dot2 either in the studios or at an external location will feature 20 - 30 moving lights from different brands, plus a quantity of colour changing LED sources. Bojan was particularly impressed by the compact size and the portability of the dot2, together with the simplicity of the design and layout.

He appreciates that all the basic functions and parameters of the dot2 - groups, colours, effects - are instantly accessible, and that it is incredibly quick and easy to start programming more complex looks and scenes, and create the building blocks of a show rapidly.

He works alongside three other console programmers and operators all of whom are equally as positive about the dot2. “Everyone was amazed by how quickly they could get a show up and running on it,” he commented. “With timescales to light a show coming increasingly under pressure, working fast and efficiently is essential, and having the dot2 in house is a great help.”

Talking generally, Bojan thinks that MA has a great reputation for having robust, reliable and quality engineered products that can be counted on. The three grandMA2 full-size consoles, MA NPU (Network Processing Unit) and MA 8Port Node were all delivered by MK Light Sound, and also relevant to the decision to purchase another MA product was the service and support they can expect from MK says Bojan.
